Can P plates do Uber?

No. You can’t drive for Uber or Uber Eats on your P’s, as a P1 or P2 licence holder. You must have a valid full driver’s licence in your territory and be at least 20 or 21 years of age, depending on the state you're driving in.

How to convert my driver's licence to a different state?

You need to hold a full driver's licence in the state or territory where you want to drive Uber. Having a full licence means you can't be on your probationary or learners plates. For example, if you hold a New South Wales driver’s licence and would like to become an Uber driver in Melbourne, you'll need to transfer your NSW driver’s licence to Victoria. This process is usually free and easy to do. Below are the links to the local road authorities if you need to transfer your licence from one Australian state to another.

What additional documents are required for Uber driving?

Each state has different requirements for what documents you need to have to become an Uber partner. Applying for government documents can take between 2-6 weeks, so start the process as soon as possible. Below are the links to apply for Government documents per each Australian state.

Do I need a full driver's licence to driver Uber Eats?

Yes. To meet Uber Eats driver requirements, you need a full Australian driver’s licence, no minimum driving experience is required and you have to be at least 18 years of age.

You can also drive for Uber Eats using a valid full international driver’s licence and a temporary visa.

There is a list of 47 countries from which Uber allows international licences.

Until now, overseas licences have only been accepted in the following cities:

  • Victoria – Melbourne, Mornington Peniunsula, Geelong

  • New South Wales – Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Byron Bay, Wagga Wagga

  • Queensland – Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Mackay, Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay

  • Western Australia – Perth, Bunbury

  • Australian Capital Territory – Canberra

  • South Australia - Adelaide

IMPORTANT: If your licence is not in English, you must provide an International Driving Permit or NAATI-Certified Translation of it.
