George switched to an EV and is now saving £600 each month

George is a man who likes to know all the numbers and options available before making a decision. That’s what led him to drive a brand-new MG5 EV with Splend, a decision George describes as wise.

In the nine years I have been driving, I’ve tried over 100 cars, and I can guarantee this one stands out. I set my eyes on it ever since it was launched and waited for Splend to include it in their car fleet. It’s the first EV I’ve ever had, and switching to green mobility was one of my wisest decisions.

The main reason why George switched from a petrol hybrid to an EV was the financial benefits.

You have many benefits as an EV Uber driver, from access to the Uber Clean Air Fund to getting points and discounted charging fees with the Uber Rewards program. I spend around £160 a month on charging my EV. I would previously spend £30-35 a day to fill up my petrol hybrid. I’m now saving around £600 a month.

George pointed out that the best features of the MG5 are the charging speed, the three driving modes, and the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

It’s such a smart car, it practically drives itself. You just have to be there to guide it.

George joined Splend on an Flexi own plan three years ago after renting cars from different companies. He was impressed by the wide range of vehicles available at Splend, the simple signup procedures, and the feeling of community you get as a Splend customer.

I’m so glad I found Splend. For the past six years, I’ve been moving from one company to another before I found Splend and committed to their Flexi own plan. I was shocked that I had to pay a smaller weekly subscription fee for a car that’s going to be mine compared to what I used to pay for renting a car.

George’s advice for those who want to become rideshare drivers is to be patient and fully dedicated to this job and treat it like a business.

Ridesharing isn’t just about taking people from A to B. It’s mostly about the people you drive and focusing on offering them a pleasant ride experience. As they say - it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.

As for how much Uber drivers make, George recommends managing your expectations before entering this journey.

You’ll hear most drivers complaining about how much they make, but the beauty of ridesharing is that you get to choose your driving strategy and improve it to earn more.

Splend’s affordable offer allowed George to earn whilst studying to become a financial market risk analyst. He doesn’t plan on giving up ridesharing just yet — meeting new people fills up his batteries every day.

About Splend

At Splend, we believe in drivers. We know their vehicles need to work harder than most; that they drive more miles than most; that their insurance is hefty; their maintenance costs high and that they can face unreasonable finance rates – which is a heavy load to carry on their own.

That’s why at Splend, we exist to support rideshare drivers with a new model, that takes all those car ownership costs, and provides them for less, with lower purchase prices, better rates, lower servicing and insurance costs – all for one weekly repayment, all in one place.
