Ismael’s love for the environment was the driving force for his EV switch

For Ismael, rideshare driving is more than just a job; it’s a chance to live a fulfilling life. Six years ago, after working in roles he didn’t enjoy, he looked into how to become an Uber driver. Now, thanks to ridesharing, he’s found stability and satisfaction.

“When I first came to the UK, my English and work experience weren’t strong enough to get a job I liked. That’s what I love about ridesharing — it gives everyone a chance, no matter their background.”

Ismael appreciates the flexibility of rideshare driving, which lets him manage his schedule and boost his earnings when needed.

“Before Uber, I struggled with bills and debt. Now, I can comfortably cover my expenses, and if I need extra income, I have that option. But I’m careful about my health and only drive the hours I can handle.”

Ismael also enjoys meeting people and strives to offer every passenger a positive experience.

“People like having me as their driver because I genuinely enjoy talking to them and helping them feel safe. Sometimes, though, I meet rude customers, but I’m naturally calm and know how to handle it.”

After looking into different car subscription options, Ismael discovered Splend and joined after visiting the London Hub.

“What convinced me to join Splend was actually my first phone conversation with them. The representative was so welcoming that I felt encouraged to visit. That’s what I appreciate most about Splend — their customer service.”

Ismael has been an EV advocate since driving his first electric car, well before they gained popularity in London. He now drives an MG ZS on Splend’s Flexi Own plan.

“I chose the MG ZS for its impressive range, especially compared to my last EV — a Hyundai IONIQ that needed two charges a day. With the MG ZS, one overnight charge covers all my jobs the next day, no matter how far.”

Ismael is committed to green mobility, not just for the cost savings but to help protect the environment.

“If everyone switched to electric cars, we’d be closer to saving our planet. When I had my first EV, a Nissan Leaf, charging stations were scarce, and the wait time was exhausting. EVs have come so far since then.”

Looking ahead, Ismael dreams of bringing his rideshare experience back to his home country, Somalia, but for now, he’s grateful for a job that suits his lifestyle.

About Splend

At Splend, we believe in drivers. We know their vehicles need to work harder than most; that they drive more miles than most; that their insurance is hefty; their maintenance costs high and that they can face unreasonable finance rates – which is a heavy load to carry on their own.

That’s why at Splend, we exist to support rideshare drivers with a new model, that takes all those car ownership costs, and provides them for less, with lower purchase prices, better rates, lower servicing and insurance costs – all for one weekly repayment, all in one place.
